Hi.

I'm currently studying accounting at seneca, but since this profession was excluded from CEC I'm considering switching to Cabinet Making program... The problem is, this program is only 3 semesters. If i finished the first semester of accounting and then switched to Cabinet Making and did 3 more semesters would it be enough to get 3-years work permit ?

I know there were people who did it but for example they graduated in 2 1-year programs but how about this...?

The profession is not excluded from CEC, only NOC 1311 accounting technicians and bookkeeper is. You still have another NOC's to apply from.

Except the 1431 is semi-skilled and not eligible for CEC.

Oh snap, thanks for catching that PMM. To the OP, you should also look into PNP programs.

For instance- BC PNP allows you to apply even if you have semi skill job and meet the following criteria:-
A job offer for an indeterminate full-time position that typically requires a university or college education at a wage that allows you to establish yourself economically in B.C.

Your occupation must be classified as Skill Level 0, A or B in the National Occupational Classification Matrix.
If your current occupation is classified as Skill Level C or D and if your employer can demonstrate that there is a structured plan in place for your career progression to an occupation classified as Skill Level 0, A or B, you can apply to the PNP. In this case, you will also need to submit the results of a language proficiency test.
P.S. I'll get back to you with more info. later today.

Hey.

The college is not bad but some teachers are not as friendly as they should be so it's important to do a little research and choose these who have a good reputation. Feel free to ask specific questions. Btw. you choosed a good program :D

The program is okay, however good job you'll get when you have cga, ca or cma certificates. it takes years... but if you like it it's worth it

yeah i have heard about cga, ca or cma but the thing is we being an international student is kinda hard for us cus we are alone there and have to do everything by ourselves and these certificate programs need full attention at all time. But still talking hypothetically by doing my accounting and finance diploma i would be able to get a decent job.
