PGWP Processing Deadline Approaching

Hi there,

I applied for my PGWP on July 13th, 2024, from Canada. After a couple of months, in the first week of October, I decided to travel back to India to see my family. I am currently in India; however, my PGWP application processing time is approaching the deadline on January 9th, 2025 (in two months). I was planning to travel back in December, but after realizing the deadline, I am planning to postpone my return until I get my PGWP.

My concerns are:

What would happen if someone stayed in Canada beyond the processing deadline mentioned in our PGWP EXT Letter? Do they need to stop working and return to their home country until their PGWP is approved?

What steps should be taken if PGWP is not approved by the deadline mentioned in our letter? Has any of you ever experienced such an issue?

Do you think it is viable to travel back in December and start working under implied status while I wait for the PGWP?

Is there a way to contact IRCC from India to expedite the application process?

I would highly appreciate your valuable response. Thank you! :)

Your maintained status will be lost once you leave Canada.
How will you return to Canada? Do you have a valid TRV?
Unfortunately all we can do is wait even if the deadline is passed. I applied on July 3rd while still waiting.

You can still work legally in Canada even if you fly out of the country and return while your application is being processed. We can even continue to work even after the 180 days of processing time expires.

I have a valid Study Visa till 2025. Before leaving Canada, I called IRCC not once but twice to confirm that my current study visa could be used to come back to Canada. They said, "Your study visa is a "valid TRV" until 2025, so you can leave and come back multiple times without applying for a new visa. Moreover, even if you apply for a visa, the officer won't approve it because you don't have a work permit yet. However, even after getting your work permit, you can use the same study visa until 2025". (Though personally, I will suggest renewing your TRV after getting your work permit if you're in Canada)

I recently asked people around who applied on the same day I applied. Some of them got their approval email last week. So you and I can hope to get the same email soon from IRCC.

After getting my work permit, I will not apply for a fresh TRV and will take my chances of traveling back with the current visa. If I make it without any hassle, then I will have a legendary lore to tell my kids and everyone here who would come to this forum looking for answers. HAHA!

And just to quench your anxiety, here's a Reddit page that I looked up: https://www.reddit.com/r/pgwp/comments/1fnr9un
