PGWP Process

Can someone advise on PGWP process?

I planned to travel home soon and my student permit expires on 31 August. I have an approved PGWP but have not received further instructions from CIC. I would like to seek for your advice so I can plan and arrange for my flights.

Do I need to do flag polling? Does my PGWP starts when I re-enter Canada? Or does it starts with effect from the official email/message from CIC?

Thank you for your time.

From your query, I am thinking you got your application for PGWP approved in My CIC but didnt get the hard copy. If this is the case wait for it to arrive in mail.
And remember its a permit which gives you a legal status in Canada but if you plan to travel outisde of the country, you need a visa to re enter, So once you get your permit you need to apply for a TRV using your PGWP.
Look at the processing times and plan your travel accordingly.

Thank you for your response.

Do they normally post the PGWP to residential address? With my student permit experience, the student permit is received at the immigration checkpoint when I meet the CBSA officers. I don't require a TRV to enter Canada but I need an eTA instead. I come from a visa-exempted country.

Yeah they will send it to your Residential address.

Now I see. So what happens after I received the work permit via post? And the effective date of my PGWP is based on the day the permit will be generated? Or based on the day my student permit expires?

The effective date is usually the date that your PGWP application gets approved on (at least in my case).

I also come from a visa-exempted country. So does that mean that with an eTA, we can travel out of and return to Canada for multiple times without applying for TRV ?

Where did you get this info from?

Waynnad, where are you from? Do you know how long it takes for CIC to snail mail the work permit?

I entered Canada with my Study Permit and I did not have any TRV.
Even if I enter Canada as a Visitor, I don't need that.

However, with the new changes, visa-exempted travellers like us need to apply for eTA.
cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta-start.asp

Based on my understanding, the student or work permit allows us to stay in Canada for a longer period of time. If we are travelling without a valid permit, we can only stay in Canada for a maximum of 6 months (depending on the Border Security Officer), or we may be denied entry if we don't provide evidence that we will leave.

Just for those who will be planning to apply for PGWP in future.

I received my "Approval" message in my CIC account. CIC will take 6 weeks to post the PGWP to your residential address.

Good luck to all!
