PGWP: Length of validity begins from date of issue?

My PGWP was approved on May 26, 2014, and shows validity until May 26, 2017. Is this correct? I will be joining my company on September this year, and was expecting validity until September 2017.

Yes, it is correct. PGWP is nothing to do with the date of the beginning of work.
