Hi guys, need some urgent advice.

I got my PGWP but its only valid until april 2016 (since my passport expires at that time). Today i got my new passport (valid until 2025). How do i renew my PGWP? I dont want to apply all over again and wait another 6 months. Is there a quick procedure since my work permit was issued for only 4 months because of my passport when usually its issued for atleast 2-3 years?

Any help/advice is welcomed. So frustrated :(

That is unfortunate. I have read cases where people have received extended permits/new permits at the airport or a border crossing on the same day (seen the word flag poling mentioned often here). That might be a faster way to get your new permit based on your renewed passport but you will likely still have to pay the processing fee. Hope this helps.

I did that today and got refused at the POE :( they asked me to apply online since they issue original PGWPs not extensions. :(

To all people, who are in same situation. Following is the process explained that helped me get my PGWP for remaining 2 Years.

1. Request Letter (Very Important): http://bit.ly/PGWP_Extension_Request_Letter
I used this template when applying for extension.

2. Make sure, you pay the PGWP application fee as well as $100 additional fees before you send your application.

3. You have to send your documents to "Unit 555" not Unit 202.

4. Overall Processing time for my entire application was 4 months.

5. Application Kit:

a. Document Checklist: Required

1. Tick following options under ALL APPLICANTS: IMM5710, IMM5556.
2. Tick following options under WORK PERMIT: Passport, Current Immigration Document.

b. IMM5710: Required

Answers for some important questions:

1. I am applying for one or more of the following:
* An Initial work permit or a work permit with a new employer
2. Under "Details of Intended Work in Canada" Section,
Select What type of work permit are you applying for: Post Graduation Work Permit
Leave all other sections blank.
3. Under "Employment" section,
Mention your current work experience in first box. It's enough.
4. Under "Background Information",
Select "Yes" for "Have you previously applied to enter or remain in Canada?".
Add following line in box "*d)".
APPLIED FOR POST GRADUATION WORK PERMIT ON "Old PGWP Date". PERMIT ISSUED WITH VALIDITY UPTO "PGWP Expiry Date".

c. Attach photocopy of first page, last page of your Passport, PGWP and Official Receipt.

6. Use the fastest possible delivery service, I used Canada Post from Toronto. They charged me $55 and took 3 days to deliver the package to Vegreville.

From another thread by goldencanada.

I'm in the same boat.. Will be applying for extension soon. I heard doing it on paper is easier, as the online system doesn't have an option for PGWP extension.

I also have the same problem but I applied for the extension (paper base). We can't apply online as there is no option on applying extension of PGWP.

One more thing, from which province you r as I am planning to go to the border and request for Bridging Open Work Permit. Can you please guide me how you went there and what officer requested?[
