I am helping my GF apply post-graduate work permit. I just learned that you can actually
cross the boarder and come back again, then have work permit done right away from CBSA. They call it “flag-poling".

I live in Toronto, I am just wondering if anyone has done this recently? I can't find any information in CBSA's website so I'm not sure if this is still available.

I appreciate if anyone can help ;D

Yes, you can do flag-polling if;

1. You are TRV exempt,
2. Have a valid medical certificate, if required
3. Do not need a LMO or already have one.

Thanks J5M.
She is currently with study permit and just graduate from a 4-year university bachelor program.
So I am pretty sure she is qualifying a three-year PGWP.
The only thing I'm not sure is that will she also get three-year PGWP if we do flag-polling, because when I google I
saw many stories that people get rejected when they cross the boarder.

I just called CIC apparently officially you need to be from a visa exempt country to do flag-poling.
Regardless you have a valid Canadian visa to come back or not.
But when I search online I found many people from China(she is from China) did this recently.
UBC even has an instruction for it:
http://students.ubc.ca/sites/students.ubc.ca/files/Post-Graduation%20Work%20Permit%20tutorial.pdf

I am a bit confused..

Thanks for reply.
Well if I can get PGWP in one day, I would rather do it than going through online/waiting period. :)

You have to get PGWP "permission" form CIC first. And with PRWP you do not need to leave and enter Canada.

Dnt even think about this!! What you think CBSA is not aware of it? They have studied every second hand mind like this and dont do anything which compel them you to deport!!!

One of my friend was under no status and his study permit expired and he crossed the border but CBsA ask him so many questions and he got 3 year PGWp for 8 months program. If you want to take a risk like this go ahead. Why you guys dnt follow the simple instructions? 90 days processing time thats it buddy and you are safe.
