Hello everyone!

I recently graduated and started applying for the PGWP. I noticed two of the application requirements on the CIC website, and I am confused about the definition of "within 90 days after receiving written conformation":

- You must apply for a work permit within 90 days of receiving written confirmation (for example, a transcript or an official letter) from your institution indicating that you have met the requirements for completing your academic program.

- You must have completed and passed the program of study and received a notification that you are eligible to obtain your degree, diploma or certificate.

I didn't receive any written confirmation notifying my confirmed graduation status other than the diploma itself, which I received on the graduation ceremony in mid-June.

I did, however, receive online graduation confirmation in mid-May, and my last semester's grades came out on online in early May.

My question is, which of the three dates should count as the start point of the 90-day period?

Anyone is or was in the similar situation please advise. Thank you a lot!

Hi! I think you should have started applying for PGWP right after you received online graduation confirmation. This is just my opinion though. No first hand experience here.

Good luck! :)

You should actually request for a written letter of confirmation from your college/university. This letter is should clearly state that you graduated with xxx degree/diploma, etc.

Alternatively, you should request for an official transcript from your college/university.

The date on the letter you receive from your institution is the same date when the 90 days start counting down. You will have to upload your letter or transcript as part of the documents required for you to obtain your PGWP.

Cheers!

I will be completing my program in April 2017 but the convocation is only in June 2017. I need to apply for my PGWP and TRV urgently as I have to leave Canada for some urgent work.

Can I request the university to provide me with my transcript and letter as soon as I complete my program. If so, could somebody help me with a sample letter please.

Thanks.

You will only be able to get that letter once the university does its audit of all graduating students to confirm you meet all requirements to graduate. You should be able to get one from student client services once that it done (usually after one or two weeks of all your final grades are confirmed). Otherwise you can always speak with the dean of your faculty and see if you can assist you since its an emergency.
