I am planning to apply Master of Engineering - Software (MEng Soft) - Course-based program in University of Calgary. I have two doubts on job opportunities and PGWP.
  • On official website , it said one year course. Is it possible to extend to 2 year by giving some reasons? Because I don't think, I can get PR within 1 year PGWP.
  • How is the job opportunities for Software Engineer in Calgary?
  • Does the universities matter for getting job in a company ?
Thanks.

1. If the program is officially one year, you get a year. Taking more time to complete the course doesn’t give you a longer PGWP.
2. Do a job search for Calgary. Depends on your experience.
3. Not sure what you mean.

All on the university’s website. Didn’t know U of C had MEng Software Engineering.
Hey thank you for your prompt response. They haven't mentioned as when they will open the applications. Also, looks like its a rolling model. So, was wondering if someone could throw some light on this. I have one more question. I will be 35 soon and its been 14 years gap after my UG. I also have 7.5 years work experience with two breaks out of which one is ongoing. Any idea on rejections based on this info.

For non research based, it is a rolling model so you apply anytime. Ask the school if they accept such a big study gap as many universities and colleges now have such policies refusing admission. This is because schools give admission and then the study permit is rejected because of the study gap.

Many Thanks for your help. Do universities or colleges say upfront that they will not accept applications from students who have long study gap? Are there any instances or threads which you can help me with?
