Hi,

I am in a very complicated situation. My work permit and visa expire soon, September 25th 2020. My CRS score is 454 and I am hoping that the September 17th draw is the CEC draw and I get an ITA. However, I am confused as to whether I should stay in the country and complete my application or if I should go back to my home country and do it. Please help.

Or do you think it better I do my upfront medicals here and leave and just wait for the process back home? From the threads I have been reading, I can see that most people who submitted their application in March (therefore it has been 6 months now) have been not received their PR as they are stuck waiting for Biometrics. I am worried about staying in the country and not being able to work whilst waiting.

If you receive ITA and are able to submit your application before your PGWP expires, then you can apply for a BOWP (this will also need to be submitted before your PGWP expires) and then continue working in Canada.

Yes, IRCC communicated a while back that applications would be taking longer than six months to complete due to COVID-19.

You can certainly also return to your home country. That's definitely an option as well.

If you submit your application before your PGWP expires, you can apply for a BOWP and stay in Canada, working legally. The moment you apply for a BOWP you earn implied status will allows you to remain in Canada and work.

You will then get a decision on your BOWP or your PR application (most likely the first).

There is no need to leave the country if you are able to submit your application before the date your current permit expires.

Thank you for your responses. My only concern is that my husband's open work permit is based on mine. I am the primary applicant for PR and my husband will be accompanying me. Will he also be able to apply for BWOP?
