PGWP expiring next June - should I apply for a new job?

Hi all!

I'm currently on a PGWP that will expire next June and have been working for almost 2 years now (will be 2 years in August).
I created my Express Entry profile back in February when my PR application was returned to me in January. My score is currently 441 & will increase to 452 once I reach the two year mark.

I'd really like to be able to move to a new job, however, my only fear is that as I only have 1 year left on my PGWP & no confirmation on when I'll receive the ITA to apply for PR, some employers might feel reluctant to hire me. At this point, I'm looking for advice on whether I should just go ahead and start applying or wait until I receive ITA.

It'd be much appreciate any advice that any of you might have for me.

Thanks a lot in advance!

If your current job offers no prospects for an LMIA, I can't see any harm in applying for a job, if you're lucky you might get one with an LMIA. Some employers are going to be reluctant for a number of reasons, some are going to see value in hiring you. With a graduate level education and also a couple of years of experience, you should be able to find a reasonable PNP program to apply to too. If I were you, I would be looking to improve my EE score by as much as I possibly could, with all the new provinces offering EE PNP streams, it is likely that the minimum CRS for each round is going to stay above 600 for a while. Just my two cents, hth

We are on the same exact boat my friend. PGWP expires next year on July 27th, actively looking for a new job due to strategic executions within my department (AKA got laid off). Lucky for me, my date of termination is Sept 18th, so I would get two years of full time work experience and severance if I don't find another position by them.

My suggestion to you is this: Live your life and don't worry about ITA, in the year you have left on your PGWP, I am sure you'll get ITA. Look for new jobs, progress in your career and focus on your goals, ITA will come and employers won't even ask how much you've got left in your PGWP.

Someday this immigration roller coaster will be over and we'll be able to focus on other stuff instead of immigration. Best luck to you!

Thanks so much for your response. I work in Marketing & unfortunately it doesn't seem like there are a lot of jobs with LMIA. The only way for me to improve my score now is to advance my education, which is not an option as it'd take another 2-3 years. I did bring up the PNP application to my employer, and they politely denied my request as the application requires confidential information. Big companies like my employer most likely aren't going to go through with the application process, which leaves me with EE as my only option.

Instead of waiting for Ita, why dont you create your profile again and apply for OOpnp as your score is above 400

My understanding is that one would require a completed Pre-Screen Application from their employer to apply for ON PNP?
My employer has denied my request as they're not willing to share confidential information to any outside parties.

If I'm mistaken, please educate me on the matter.

Thanks!

There's a new program from Opportunities Ontario for people inside EE stream with a score of 400 or more. No need for employer screening, the requirements are simple (If you have ties to Ontario that is) and it's available starting June 1st. You must withdraw and resubmit your profile in order for the system to be able to search it. I highly recommend you do this if you are eligible. I am in marketing too, getting LMIA is not an option, but PN is.

Thanks for your response - I did look into the OOPNP program and found that it's only available to people who hold a degree/master's degree/PHD. I meet all the criteria, except that I only have a 3 year advanced diploma. Life really sucks it seems...

Also, just out of curiosity, does getting a job via job bank earn you the additional 600 points? I don't think it does but I feel that there might be some other benefits to it.

I am not eligible either because of the same thing haha. I haven't lost hope, we still have a year left in our PGWP to see what happens. There could always be another CEC-specific drawing in the near future. I think we have a pretty good chance, so don't let that stop your career progression. Look for jobs and apply now pressure!
