Hello,

I completed my semester in August 2020( spring semester). It was a part time semester.

After that my college informed me that i had to take additional courses to increase my overall GPA.

Due to my family's financial emergencies. I had to put my last semester on hold in fall semester 2020 And i enrolled for winter 2021 semester as my last semester. It is full time semester.

My question is that according to the latest pgwp criteria. Will this situation affects my PGWP eligibility? And how it will affect?. And what should i do to solve this problem?

Thank you

Yes you may have issues as you weren’t full time for your program which is an eligibility requirement. Sometimes it is overlooked, sometimes not. You can’t solve the problem since you were part time. You will know when you apply.

Yes,,
But as per latest criteria regarding pgwp eligibility. You are still eligible for you pgwp if you were a part time student in winter spring and summer semester. Is it okay if i attached one explanation latter with my pgwp application mentioned my situation?

Hello
What about my semester gap. If i mention the reason ( family financial emergencies). Which is true. Will it work?

You can try. The best is to get a note from your school that you were on an official leave for a family emergency.

  • They have maintained full-time student status in Canada during each academic session of the program or programs of study they have completed and submitted as part of their post-graduation work permit application. Exceptions can be made only for the following:

Yes,

As i check on cic. PGWP criteria is temporarily changed for students who are already in Canada.

I think that would beneficial for me as well.

On the safe side, i will attach proper explanation letter with the application

Why was your August 2020 session part time? If due to the school (Covid) then yes that is okay.

Part-time status
Students in or outside of Canada may have been required to put their studies on hold or become part-time students due to course cancellations as a result of public health measures at DLIs. For the winter, spring and summer 2020 semesters, when a student’s status changed from full time to part time due to changes in course delivery at a DLI, their eligibility for a post-graduation work permit will not be impacted

The whole college was shift to online study due health restrictions, public health measures and social distancing. That was my part time semester because i drop one course in previous semester.

I had to take part time semester because i had only one subject to complete my program and after that semester i came to know the i was not fulfilled my eligibility of maintaining 2.0 GPA. So that's why i need to take additional courses as my final semester. What should i do about this?

Again it may or may not be an issue. Explain the part time semester due to online and Covid and low GPA.
