Hello,

I have seen posts about this dated in the early 2010s, so I wanted to ask again now because the laws constantly change.
As international students, are we able to get a study permit while we wait for the PGWP or after we get it? My university claims it is possible, but a lawyer told me it isn’t possible. I am interested in taking a couple extra classes on a special student status, preferably as I wait for the PGWP but I don’t mind waiting until I get it. Thoughts?

Hi Inalz,
My immigration advisor told me last week that we can hold a PGWP and a Study Permit at the same time. Not sure about while you are on implied status though, maybe it's safer to wait until you get approved for PGWP.

Technically it is possible, but keep in mind you get PGWP only once and any work exp you get while being a student in Canada won´t count for any Express Entry program. Personally I´d have waited until I finish all my studies to get PGWP.
