Hello everyone,

I have a question about Post Graduate Work Permit.

I graduated (BA Eng) in January 2017 and applied for masters. I got a conditional acceptance around March and got my new study permit issued in May. I just received an update from my prof that my conditional offer was not satisfied and hence can't join the program. I do still have a new valid study permit till June 2019.

Can I apply for a PGWP now? I did not intend to be in this situation but leaving Canada is not an option.
I also know of the border PGWP thing but I do NOT have a US visa and cannot cross the border and come back. What are my options? I am currently trying the CIC number but keep getting that they are busy with lots of calls...

P.S. If relevant, my failure to meet the conditional acceptance was out of my hand and dependant on something else.

Any info will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

you can apply for your masters in another school since you have a valid study permit or you can use the permit and apply for PGWP Online

That's incorrect - it's too late to apply for the PGWP. You can only apply for a PGWP within 90 days of completing the program.

You can go to border no need of us visa. One of my friend went to border for pgwp didn't have visa. He got pgwp. He crossed the border but no problem.

The OP needed to apply for PGWP within 90 days of completing the program that finished in January that is the rule and there is no allowance for being rejected for admission on a new or extended study permit. The OP needs to follow through with the new study permit to get on a masters course with another institution, complete that and then apply for a PGWP.

Having said above by all means the OP can try flagpoling but presenting a graduation/ completion that is greater than 90 days old even if the OP has extended the study permit should not get approved but who knows might be lucky nobody here can tell the OP will be sucessful or not.

Hi Bs65,

I am in similar situation. My current study permit will expire on Aug 30 2017, and I will graduate in September. I was planning to do another degree, so I applied for a new study permit (2 years) for a new school. But then I get a job offer and want to apply for the PGWP now. So:

1. Can I still apply for PGWP if I get the new study permit, given that I will still be in the 90 days time frame? Should I cancel the application to the new study permit and apply for old study permit extension (3 months) for the PGWP?

2. Say if I can still apply for PGWP on the new study permit, can I cancel the study permit when I get the PGWP since experience will not count if I am on full time study (ie. the new study permit)?

Thank you very much
