If a host is living separately from their spouse but is not divorced, filing taxes separately, and wants to sponsor their parents, what would their family size be? There are no children and no previous sponsorship undertakings.

Assume you are in the 2020 pool, and hoping for parents to be selected in the lotter. How long have you been separated? See rules on family size and says even if separated. Since you include the last 3 years of NOAs and meeting LICO, spouse would be included.

Given it doesn’t appear you were part of 2020 EOI it is likely going to be a very long time before you may be able to apply for PGP if you ever get the opportunity. If divorce is possible they should get divorced. You should also have a plan for your parent given parent sponsorship is far from guaranteed and when/if the program reopens there will be hundreds of thousands of people applying for a relatively small number of spots. There are likely going to be some changes to the program to try to prioritize applicants waiting the longest which is what they have attempted to do with the EOI2020. Can’t imagine they will open a large pool again and freeze EOIs for over a decade to slowly select a small number every year for PGP.
