Update on 2025 Parents and Grandparents Program
Ottawa, March 7, 2025—Family reunification is an important part of Canada’s immigration system, helping Canadian citizens and permanent residents sponsor their loved ones to live and work alongside them in Canada. Through the Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program, the government is committed to reuniting as many families as possible.
This year, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) intends to accept up to 10,000 complete applications for sponsorship under the PGP Program.
Given there remains a number of interest to sponsor forms in the pool from 2020, IRCC plans to send invitations to apply to randomly selected potential sponsors from that pool instead of accepting new forms. This is the same approach taken for the intakes conducted from 2020 to 2024.

Vote for Conservative party. Fk Trudeau! Fk IRCC.
Is the parents of Trudeau still in 2020 PGP pool?
Conservatives consistently reduce immigration numbers. If you want an increase then you would want to vote NDP.

Trudeau's father is a former PM of Canada and is deceased. His mother was born in Canada. So neither would be in the pool.

Ironic since Liberals increased quota dramatically over conservatives. Parent sponsorship is not possible or limited in many countries with Medicare and generous social programs.

Also thought there had already been an announcement that no draws this year since there is such a backlog in processing.

Yes they did had an announcement pausing it until further notice.

Honestly I’m just grateful they have this program, this might get eliminated when Conservatives wins. But let’s see what the future holds - they might have change of hearts.

There is incredible pressure regarding PGP. We ended up with a supervisa visit length of 5-7 yrs as a compromise. As easily predicted most people then view this as a permanent move creating even more problems. Things had to be pretty bad for Miller to reduce quotas for 2025 since he would have received a lot of pushback. Surprised nobody has leaked a story about PGP and supervisas so public outrage from longterm taxpayers could be used as a reason to scale back these programs without taking the blame.

Hi All,

Please help me with below query.

We applied for PGP sponsorship in 2020, after interest to sponsor submission, we received a confirmation number. To check eligibility after draw, no entry exist with given confirmation number? Anyone faced the same issue. Is there any way to contact or rectify the issue? Please share shed some light on the same. Thanks.

If you checked and did not see your number show up, it means you were not selected for that year to sponsor your parents. Wait for next time, which is coming soon this year according to the annoucement above

I remembered the Conservative paused the PGP for 3 years in 2011-2013-ish. They also increased the residence eligibility to apply for Citizenship, from 3 years to 5 years. They also removed the "right-away PR" status of Spouse sponsorship (if approved) but giving 2-year work permit, then after that apply for PR. Overall, if you want more immigration acceptance, the Liberals is indeed more "immigrant-friendly" than the Conservatives

Agree much more immigrant friendly but even a new Liberal gvt would likely tighten up requirements. We have an ageing population so tighten up PGP and length of supervisa because people are not returning home and placing strain on things like healthcare make sense. In terms of citizenship if we want to prevent a revolving door of people(especially professionals), increasing residency length to get citizenship and requiring people to remain in Canada during processing could easily be justified. Given the recent court case regarding the ability to pass down citizenship 3 years is a very short amount of time given the potential liability.
