PGP 2014 Medicals for diabetic parent

I'm sponsoring my parents under PGP program 2014. I am curious to know how a medical examiners determines if a patient has Diabetes or high BP or heart condition merely from blood and urine sample IF on the day of the examination the persons blood sugar and BP readings are normal? Because my dad gets normal readings for both when he takes the appropriate medication and insulin.

They are only checking the blood test for very specific diseases so I'm not sure that they would find anything like that. I'm pretty sure they ask you about your current health conditions. If not you should probably offer that information to the doctor and tell him what medication you're on. If you withhold that information and they later found out, could you not be held inadmissable for lying?

I don't think it would affect your application anyways because they are looking for things that are either extremely contagious or things that would put a strain on the health care system like cancer and other very serious diseases. Not that diabetes and high blood pressure aren't serious, but when they're well controlled they aren't a problem.

Based on last excessive demand criteria I saw, the magic number is $6,285 per year. If the CIC medical officer calculates that an applicant's condition will cost Canada's healthcare system more than $6,285 per year for at least 5 years after they land (so $31,425 in total), then they will conclude they are medically inadmissible due to excessive demand.

So if you really want to know if a particular condition will cause problems with CIC, you can check what the usual healthcare-paid costs are to treat the condition in a typical patient (though not sure how to accurately get this info).

I don't think being diabetic will have an effect of the excessive demand. Most diabetic related costs (insulin, equipment) are not covered by health care. Diabetic people are responsible for the cost. They can claim these expenses as medical deductions come income tax filings.

Once they turn 65, at least in Ontario, diabetic supplies are covered under ODB and therefore ARE paid for by health care. By being in the parental sponsorship stream they will qualify for ODB at 65, yes? Of course, this ALL presupposes they are in fact coming to Ontario, or that other counties have the same/similar programs.
