petition of divorce documaent

please can someone tell me what is petition of divorce document, I got divorced and got married in india n sponsoring my spouse , I have submitted divorce certificate, isn't that enough, will I be requested for petition of divorce doc from cic? where can I find that? my divorce application was not signed by my ex the judge took decision and I got divorce .

I am totally confused please advise?

The petition is the document by which divorce proceedings are commenced. I know nothing of the procedure in India but my guess is that the petition is lodged in the court office when the proceedings are commenced and that if you want a copy of it you need to ask the court office (or your solicitor if you had one) for a copy. I can see no reason why CIC should ask for the petition if you have already produced the dvorce decree to CIC, unless there is some ambiguity in the decree which necessitates looking at the petition. I would be surprised if anyone asked for the petition to be produced. The fact that your ex did not sign the petition seems to me irrelevant.

thanks for your reply, actually the divorce took place in Canada, and he dint want to divorce me so he never signed it, so the decision was made by the judge.

I am just guessing. But I think the VO may be asking for the petition to see who filed for the divorce and what were the reasons. I do not believe the judgement contains that information. Also If you recently became a PR and your ex spouse sponsored you they may want to find out the reason for divorce. Again I am just guessing with the limited information you provided.

So <I got divorced.... in India> (your first post) means you got divorced in Canada??? I agree with Jomz: you really must be more specific. Why are you asking your question about the divorce petition? Is it simply an academic point or, as Jomz appears to have understood, have you received a request from a VO for the divorce petition? Please tell us more.
