If planning to move to Canada & bring the family pet dog (I have already read about HOW to do this), but is it wise to have a pet dog when living somewhere in mid Saskatchewan/Alberta with long cold winters?
This might seem like a silly question but do people commonly keep pet dogs there?

How about the need to exercise etc, I imagine this is impacted a fair bit by snow covered ground etc?

Thanks!

Yes - people commonly keep dogs in these provinces. They just walk/run/exercise in the snow.

I'm sure you will become accustomed to the snow soon enough :) Canadian winters are cold, but also wonderful. Our dogs LOVE the snow. They actually get really excited to go out and jump around in it (and they are small).
Cheers!

Hi RebeccaQ. How did moving to Canada with your dog work out for you. Planning to take my dog with me. What did they require at the airport. Is it just really the vaccination certificate? Did they allow you to bring pet food?

In writing, pet foods are not allowed, however, it all depends on the officer you deal. He/she might give you a break!

Apart from the vaccination certificate, you also need to check with the airlines about their requirements. Some airlines doesn't allow certain types of dog breeds on board their planes.
