We have been living in the US for a long time and have gathered tons of stuff. We are planning to do soft landing next month and final move later in 2019. At this point we are not sure what items we will sell/dispose and what we will bring with us during the final move.
How detailed should the list of items be? Can we add categories like clothes, toys, utensils, kitchen appliances?
Can someone share a sample of their own list on private message?

Do we not need 'goods to follow' list? In any case, how detailed does it have to be? Can we add categories in stead of listing each single item?

If you have items that will arrive after your landing, then yes you need goods to follow. Need not be detailed ( except for electronics items and vehicles)

We are doing our soft landing in a couple of weeks and here is what I was told by multiple people who landed and was successful with this process. On your Goods to Follow, I believe there are like 6 or 8 lines that allow you to enter goods. (Yes, make sure you have goods to follow on your soft landing. They have to stamp it! If they don't, anything you try to bring later will be subject to tax)

Categorize them, such as.. (Obviously you can adjust to your needs)
  1. Utensils / Kitchen / Cutlery
  2. Electronics
  3. Clothing /Personal Effects
  4. Jewelry
  5. Home Goods/ Linens / Bedding
  6. Storage / Sports Equipment
  7. Furniture
Then, on a separate spreadsheet (which each tab would be one of your categories) you want to list - Item/ Description, Model # / Qty / CAN Value

If you have a 2 boxes of clothes - the mark down something like
  1. clothes (shirts, short.... ) 1 box - $5
  2. clothes (dresses, pants) 1 box - $10 or $0
Under CAN value, they want the current value if you were to sell it now. If you have items like furniture or something that has been in your family or handed down, then mark $0 value. If something was a gift, mark gift and put a date or year when received. (they want to know its been in your possession longer that 6 months) You will print each spreadsheet and attach it to the Goods to Follow.
