Permenant Residency after Post Graduation Work Permit

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions about my status in Canada and how to proceed in getting my permanent residency.

1. I graduated from a 4 year Paralegal degree and obtained a post graduate work permit for 3 years. My first question is, in order to get my permanent residency, do I have to complete 1 year in the field I completed my degree in, or can I work anywhere and still apply for permanent residency?

2. My second situation is that I have been accepted to law school in the UK (where I am originally from), if I decide to go to law school in the UK with the intent of coming back to Canada, how would I apply for permanent residency? Since I know PGWP are only offered once, would I have to apply for a regular work permit?

My main goal is to get residency in Canada. I am just unsure if the best way to do that is to complete the process through my current PGWP, and if going back to school in the UK would negatively effect my chances of applying for permanent residency.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Sinead
