Good day all- I traveled to the USA during US Thanksgiving 2021 without realizing my PR card had expired. Got family here, so didn't rush to apply for PRTD. Here it is April, and I am MORE than ready to get back to Edmonton. I am putting together my application to mail to the NYC VAC. The VFS global site and helpline have been a nightmare of gargantuan proportion. Big question: Does anyone know how long it will take for a turnaround for the PRTD to be completely processed from NYC? Have heard wild things such as 2 weeks to 6 months. Been following the checklists and have put in a ton of documents verifying my residency obligation from T4s to proof of professional licensure to employment history for last 5 years. Any other advice?

Thanks!

Forget about the PRTD, travel to a land border with Canada and cross by car/on foot, and then apply for a PR card renewal within Canada.
I know this is an option. However I don't have my confirmation of PR document and apparently it got lost in a move as nobody at home can find it. Thanks for the reply.

I have my expired PR card, yes. And now voided and expired AB drivers ' license (got a MI DL this week...)
I’d go the land route even if this is all you had. I have crossed many times with just my passport and never had an issue. Waiting on a PRTD is a complete unknown in many circumstances.

Good lord this is tempting...
So what do I do? Just show them my passport on the way in? Immigration wrote a number on one of the pages when I got my PR. Or do I show them the expired pr card? Good lord I have a Bible of documents proving residency. I did read this was an option but I dont have my CoPR document... saw they suggested this be present also.

I just miss Edmonton. USA has changed lots since 2013. Canada is the best in my little opinion. Thanks.

Since you'll deal directly with CBSA at the land border, they can just verify your PR status in their system. That's why the passport is usually enough as the other poster shared.

As others put - your passport will probably be enough, passport + UCI number likely enough, your passport + expired PR card almost certainly enough, etc.

Fly to a border town and walk across, you'll be fine.

So I wasn't planning to drive to Edmonton. Was planning to try to cross the border and then fly Toronto to Edmonton (final destination. ) Would there be any issues there? It technically would not be an international flight.
