Good morning,

I landed in Toronto with my family in December 2012. I left Canada and stayed outside till now because my father is sick and I am the unique son and I have to take care of him. Now I am in the process of coming back to Toronto. Is it possible? My PR expires in January 2018. Do I need a special travel document or simply I use my PR? Can I enter Canad or they prevent me because I stayed outside Canada for a long period? What about the renewal of the PR? Is is automatic. If I stay in Toronto till January 2018, I won't meet the residency requirements (780 days). So I have to renew the PR. What shall I do? Please advise. I am planning to come to Toronto as soon as possible.
Many thanks.

Now I am in the process of coming back to Toronto. Is it possible? My PR expires in January 2018. Do I need a special travel document or simply I use my PR? Simply come with your PR card Can I enter Canad or they prevent me because I stayed outside Canada for a long period? You can return with your valid PR card What about the renewal of the PR? Is is automatic. Go to this link to find out how to renew PR card. From the Help Centre, you can also make enquiries about your specific situation and receive guidance, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-replace-pr-card.asp If I stay in Toronto till January 2018, I won't meet the residency requirements (780 days). So I have to renew the PR. What shall I do? Contact CIC as explained above Please advise. I am planning to come to Toronto as soon as possible.
Many thanks.

Thank you for your dedication to help others. I tried to contact CIC , but I couldn't find an email or a form to complete online. Can you help me?
I want to know if I don't meet the residency requirements (730 days) after I come back. What shall I do?
Many thanks.

Don't apply to renew your PR card until you meet RO. You will need to remain in Canada without leaving until you meet RO and only then apply for a new card.

I landed in April 26, 2013. I returned back with the whole family 60 days later.
We have stayed outside canada until now. I am planning to return back on July 1st
It looks I can only have 725 days in Canada in 5yrs from the first arrival in Canada.
But PR is valid and will be valid till June 2018. I will not really have reasons to need a new card.
Family has no issue. They have returned earlier than me.
Thank you.

My reason is that the training program I commenced before I became a permanent resident should have ended last year october. But it couldn't end because of political unrest and industrial action in Nigeria until June 30, 2016. That's why my travel date is July 1st. I already had a ready made employment which will start in July . I also had a fully funded PhD admission at the University of Edinburgh which I am going to do concurrently with the employment offer.

Am I good with this reasons. Will it be acceptable. I have my original admission letter and my offer of employment.

Thank you.

Does this mean I have to stay in Canada for 2 years without leaving? What about the expiry date of my PR?
Shall I renew 6 months before the expiry?
Otherwise I will stay illegaly.
Plesse advise.
Many thanks.

Yes - you should remain in Canada for 2 years without leaving if you want to make sure you can keep your PR status. Again, you should not apply to renew your PR card until AFTER you have met the residency obligation. This means that you won't apply to renew your PR card until sometime after your current PR card has expired. This is perfectly legal.

Because your PR Card expires, NOT your PR status. As advised by scylla, You should not apply for renewal of PR card until you have completed 2 years in Canada because you are violating PR status validity

Thank you thank you very much. I appreciate your dedication and good sense of helping others.

If it happens I have to go back home for sometime because of an emergency. Does this mean they don't allow me to enter Canada?

Please advise

No one can stop you to enter Canada as far as your PR card does not expire but you MAY get reported at arrival & wil be asked to explain why you should not be deported as you are not able to full fill PR requirement. Only reason related to humanitarian grounds like taking caring of sick or someone's death are generally acceptable as a valid excuse.

I don't know what would be the case if your PR card expires & you left Canada due to emergency & wanna come back.
