I apologize if this is a silly question - I have been a pr resident for about 900 days (got pr november 2015 )-

I have the 730 days done already

I have been given medical leave for 2 months- I don't have a return flight but i will be returning (I jus can't put a return date on it yet )

I assume I'm ok to go home and come back in the next 3 months?I just love this country and don't want t mess anything up

Thanks for anyones advise

When is your pr card expiry date? I believe it's in 2020. Since you already met the required 730 days you are free from all the burdens. And once you approach 2020 you could apply for pr card renewal and there shouldn't be any problems. Just one thing you need to take care of is not to lose the pr card. Because pr card is required to enter Canada, losing the pr card means applying for prtd which is basically same like renewing the pr card and sometimes it takes longer than usual to receive a prtd.

I would add that you can only apply to renew a PR card from within Canada.

If you are outside of Canada with an expired PR Card and you need to travel back, you have to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) from a Visa Office close to where you are. As with a PR Card, you will have to show that you have met the residency obligation for the relevant 5 year period on the date of application for the PRTD.

Also, keep in mind that after your first 5 years of being a PR, your residency obligation still applies. The residency obligation states that upon examination you will have to show that you have been in Canada for a minimum of 730 days in the 5 year period before that date. This means that starting in 2020 you will have to have been in Canada for 730 days in the 5 year period prior to that date in 2020. Days spent in Canada as a PR in 2015 will start to drop off.
