Permanent Residency visa lodged. Can I apply for a working holiday visa?

I am in desperate need of your wise insight! please hook me up with your sweet sweet knowledge! ;D

I have just lodged my permanent residency visa application where my Canadian boyfriend is sponsoring me.
The processing time looks like it will be 18 months! :'(

Is there ANY way I can head over now and begin working? is it possible for me to apply for a working holiday visa and start working there once it's approved? all the while my perm res visa is being processed?

I would be grateful for any insight

Depends where you are from. If you are from a country that participates in the program and meet the program requirements, then you can certainly apply.

In the event you are from the UK, you should be aware that are far far far more applicants than spaces in the program. Don't get your hopes up too high.

Also, 18 months may not be how long it takes. (Again, depends where you are from)

I am from Australia and have previously been on a working holiday visa.

So if I apply and am approved, it wont affect my permanent residency application?

if my memory is correct, you can't apply for a second working holiday visa from the same country.

Oh no? When I was in Canada on a holiday working visa last, I recall you were able to reapply until you were 31.

Is this different now?

I think they meant you can apply for working holiday visas in general until you are 31. I had asked when I did a working holiday visa in Belgium to extend it a year, but they said working holiday visas can't be redone for the same country, but you can re-apply for another one in another country. I think your best bet is just to wait it out. The 18 months is in general for all visa offices, most of them approve visas faster than that. There are people who applied in September who already have their residence visa.

If I recall correctly, some countries are eligible for a second working holiday visa. I believe it's called a young professionals visa, or something like that. Look into it.

Sydney is a fast office. Some people have gotten through in 4-6 months. I would certainly check into the Young Professionals visa, but also realize that you won't have to wait too long.

I assume you applied as common-law and have lived together for at least 12 months?

Incorrect. Different rules for different countries. Some are allowed multiple participations - others are not. Australians are allowed multiple participations.

Why is it so hard to find info on whether I can get a working holiday visa while my perm residence visa is processing?

There will be no impact on your PR application. Go ahead and apply. Note that your second participation in the program may have to be under the Co-Op category (you'll have to read through the rules in detail to confirm).
