Permanent Residency Expires while Citizenship Application in Process

My permanent resident card expires after a few months and my citizenship application is in process. Should I go ahead and apply for renewal of permanent residency or wait? I have received the AOR for my citizenship application.

1. If you don't intend to travel until you get citizenship, then you don't require a valid PR card. Your choice.

While I agree with this statement, given delays, as f in any doubt it might be best to apply.
