Dear Members,

I became a Citizen recently. My wife and kids are back in my home country because of some medical issues.
They lived here in Canada for 1 Year. The residency obligation is 2 out of 5 years in Canada and with few exceptions.

I am adding the below exception relevant to my question.

"If you are outside Canada for extended periods of time, you can accumulate residency days if you are:

  • Travelling with a Canadian spouse or common-law partner, or are a child under 19 years of age accompanying a parent."
So my question is: If I return to home country and spend 1 year with them, will they be able to fulfil their obligation of 2/5 years. Please advice!

Has anyone been in this situation??
