HELLO THERE

I AM A PERMANENT RESIDENT SINCE MARCH 2009 AND HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THE REQUIRED 2 YEARS WITHIN THE 5 YEARS ON MARCH 2011 . I GOT MARRIED LAST MONTH IN MY ORIGINAL COUNTRY AND LEFT TO ANOTHER COUNTRY (NOT TO CANADA) FOR WORK . CAN I SPONSOR MY WIFE AND SHE CAN GO TO CANADA WHILE I AM WORKING HERE .

THANKS

No, You have to be physically be in Canada as a PR while you are sponsoring your wife

just wondering if Do I really have to be in Canada for straight 2 years to be a Canadian Citizen? what if I want to go back to my country for vacation? would it affect my status? coz I believe I have to be in Canada for required years for me to get my Citizenship. My status is PR, sponsored by my husband as Canadian Citizen.

One more thing, we want to visit San Francisco for holiday, do I have to get separate Visa? is yes, How?

Thank you

You have to accumulate 3 years of physical residence in the country as one of the qualifications for citizenship. Vacation periods spent outside the country have to be subtracted.

If you are originally from a country that requires a visa in order to enter the US, then you need to apply for a visitor's visa before going to San Francisco. Being a Canadian PR does not exempt you from this requirement. Contact the nearest US consulate or go to the State Department's website to find out how to apply for the visitor's visa.

You have to meet the residency requirement for eligibility to apply for citizenship by being physically present in Canada. I believe it works on a cumulative total of days. In other words, time spent outside the country will not count, but being away doesn't start the clock again.

As far as going to San Francisco on holiday - the USA does not use your Canadian permanent status to determine whether or not you need a visa to visit the country. If your passport is issued by a country that is part of the US visa-waiver program, you can enter the USA without a visa. Otherwise, you need to apply in advance of travel for a US temporary visa. I don't know how you do that - you should probably check with your country's embassy in Canada for more information, or read through the info on the State Department website.

Just to be clear about the residency requirements for citizenship, the requirement is physical presence in Canada for 3 out of the previous 4 years before the application is submitted.

thank you for all your response. Sorry late reply I forgot my password plus hospitalized when I was still in the phils. I'm in Calgary already since June 25 and now I have time to retrieve and browse again with this site. Thank you so much again...
