I am looking to clarify my options with respect to permanently moving with my family to Canada.

Between October 2007 and August 2010 we lived in Canada, where I was working on secondment from the UK to Canada with for my employer on a 3 year work permit. During this time we spent 943 days in Canada.
In August 2010 we returned to the UK, where we are currently based.

Having been back in the UK for 13 months we would now like to permanently return to Canada and using this forum would like to confirm what options we have available to us.

During our time in Canada we never formally applied for nor were we granted permanent resident status. As far as I am aware we would be entitled to be granted permanent resident status (by virtue of the time we have spent living in Canada over the last 5 years), but we are unable to submit an initial application for permanent resident status as we are currently living in the UK (please confirm).

However, it appears that we may have an option to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document to the Canadian Embassy in London, UK, despite having been granted permanent resident status (please confirm).

If accepted we would then be able to enter Canada and promptly make an application for permanent resident status (please confirm).

If my understanding above is accurate, I have a few additional clarification questions:
- How long will my permanent resident application take once landed in Canada?
- Will I be able to obtain a SIN number without a permanent resident card?
- Will I be able to work without a permanent resident card?
- Subject to Lender approval, am I likely to be able to purchase a property without a permanent resident card?

Many thanks to anyone who can help my family and I achieve our wish to permanently move to Canada.

Regards

Bell

As far as I am aware we would be entitled to be granted permanent resident status (by virtue of the time we have spent living in Canada over the last 5 years),This is not true...your previous stay in Canada does not confirm or entitle you for PR. You have to qualify under the rules of different categories eg. Skilled, PNP or CEC etc. CEC requires a minimum 2 yr stay in Canada to qualify for PR. Skilled category has other requirements. but we are unable to submit an initial application for permanent resident status as we are currently living in the UK (please confirm). You can apply for PR from ANY WHERE in the WORLD as long as you qualify

However, it appears that we may have an option to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document to the Canadian Embassy in London, UK, despite having been granted permanent resident status (please confirm). I don't think you would qualify for this as this option is for PR's who are living outside of Canada and need who need proof of their status so they can return to Canada.who need proof of their stat

Sorry, IMO, since the above is not feasible, there are no answers to the questions below[/color

Hi Bell,

Are you aware of the MI-3 List with the NOCs in the current list? Do you or your spouse have any experience (minimum 1yr in the past 10yrs) in any of the NOC's...if Yes, then you/spouse can apply for PR based on that.
Following are some links which might be worth looking at and return to this Forum with your questions:

1.CIC Website:

2. FSW website:

3. Check if you are eligible:

Goodluck Bell.....shoot your questions whenever you are ready.

mitali is correct.

You do not qualify for PR solely based on the fact that you lived in Canada. You also would not qualify for a travel document.

As mitali has suggested, if you are interested in obtaining PR status then you need to explore the same options that are available to everyone else (i.e. FSW, CEC, provincial nomination).

Good luck.

It would appear that you just missed the opportunity to apply. You could have applied within one year of leaving Canada as long as you have 2 years work experience in Canada. Check this link:
