Dear Friend,
I have a question regarding PCC that I have one from USA since June 2014 but I never been in USA since 2012 and I have one from UAE but I been there twice for couple of weeks.
Mu question, do I need a new PCC from USA & UAE or I can use the old one?

USA PCC will work. You'll need a new PCC from UAE that would be dated after the last time you were there.

Hi Asivad,
As I understood that if you been in visit and not lived for 6 month in raw that will be acceptable.
Pls correct me if I'm wrong.

That information was correct until recently. IRCC amended PCC requirements in Feb '16 and now it is no longer 6 months in a row. Stays adding up to 6 months (not necessarily in a row) in a country would require a PCC. If you travel back to that country after obtaining the PCC, the existing PCC is invalidated.

Thanks for this update. Geez, IRCC just keeps changing things so often

Asivad,
I called IRCC today and confirm me that they accept PCC with 3 month old.
is that right? I have only 2 months to apply which is not enough to get from FBI & UAE.

Asivad,
What written on CIC as following:

"In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate. You must get one from each country or territory where you have lived for six or more months in a row since the age of 18. (For example, if you lived in a country for eight months but left on a two-week vacation, that counts as living there for eight months.)

For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply.

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

If your certificate is in a language other than English or French, send it when you apply, along with the original copy of a translation done by a certified translator."

That means my certificate should be accepted if I'm not lived in the country again.
This information updated in 2nd Feb 2016.

For your kind advise.

I'm aware of the inconsistency on IRCC's site. Check here and you'll notice that the crucial 'in a row' is missing.

I had the exact same opinion as you till late last year - that PCC should be valid if you haven't gone back and lived in that country for 6 months. But officers have been finicky on this so one never knows. Which is why it is prudent to get a UAE PCC again because you've been there twice after the PCC was issued.

Even more evidence of inconsistency - call centre agents are usually wrong about things.

Doesn't the PCC have validity of 1 year?

It doesn't.

For your current country of residence, validity is 6 months no matter what it says on the PCC itself.

For any other country where you aren't currently resident, the PCC must be obtained after the last time you lived in that country. There is still ambiguity here - some IRCC source indicate that you need a fresh PCC only if you go back and live in that country for 6 months while some officers' actions of refusing applications indicate that you need a fresh PCC if you've ever visited that country (even for a day) after getting the PCC.

Hello Asivad Anac could you please help clarify this and tell me if I need a new PCC or not?

Last year in August I went back to my home country and stayed there for 3 weeks (August 7-28), during which I requested and got my PCC. The date on PCC is August 24, 2015 (few days before I came back to Canada). I have never since entered my home country again.

So my question is, do I need to apply a new PCC when the time comes to apply my PR (assuming i won't go back to my home country again), or the one I have now which I got in August 2015 will suffice?

Thanks!!!

Yes you do. There have been reported instances on the forum of applications being refused because the applicant stayed back for a few days/weeks/months in the country after having obtained the PCC. I understand it is a cruel requirement but those are the rules - we don't get to make them.

But the thing is, I didnt go back after I got my PCC. I got my PCC, then I came back to Canada.

I understand that. A plausible workaround would involve writing an LoE highlighting the fact that you spent just 4 additional days in your home country after obtaining the PCC and your willingness to obtain a fresh PCC if the officer requires it to process your application (probably a step further by providing proof of having applied for a fresh PCC as well). Don't risk it for those 4 days and an officer's discretion, not worth it.

OMG this is so frustratingly dumb!

But thanks for the reply :)
