I am new to this forum and I actually joined because I have the same exact question to ask... even I cannot afford to give my passport for 4 weeks (or 6 months in some cases). my question is:

Can I get my PCC from India instead of getting it from BLS (here in Canada) ?
If I get my PCC from India - will this have a bad impact on my application in any way?
I know this but still want to make sure with the greater team here - can I submit my PCC after submitting my application?

I appreciate this.

I have heard cases where people obtained PCC from local police station in India and have received medical requests. My suggestion would be to get it from the consulate as it looks more official (with letter head etc) and I believe it vouches for your entire stay in India. The one that is issued from local police station may be specific to that location.
You can submit your PCC once you receive your AOR.

So you are saying that it is okey to obtain a PCC from India? It will not cause any issues down the line?
I am only looking for suggestions and wont hold you responsible for anything :P

I had my father visit my local police station in India, he gave an application to them for a police clearance letter. After few visits they issued the letter. If you know someone you can get it done quickly! The letter had my name, passport number and a message that there are no criminal records on my name as per the records of that police station.
Also, the regional passport offices in India issue PCC. To do that the applicant needs to be physically present with original passport.

so you got it from India too?

Yes, I got it from India too. I submitted that letter along with my application package. The letter didn't look very professional (no letter head, no footer etc) so I am planning to submit the letter that I received from consulate (which took a lot of time) after receiving the AOR.

I got exactly 10 days time. it actually depends on your travel history to the country of your origin. Some cases where there no travel has been made got it in 5 days (one of my friend).

To check status online do you pick consular service in the drop down?

You have to choose "Passport Application" from the dropdown in the BLS website.

BLS is total crap...

I totally agree with your statement.
I went to BLS today to apply for PIO for my child born here in Canada. As I landed last week I only have the landing document and not the PR card. But the BLS officials say that I do not have a status in Canada until the PR Card is received and they didn't accept my application. They asked me to wait until the PR card is received. It's a total crap... ???
