How to obtain a police certificate - India

- you need to log in to www.passport.gov.in website, fill online application, upload all the necessary supports;
- then with the print out of the application you need to approach your local passport office (i.e. Passport seva kendra - PSK);
- you do not have to take any appointment for this and you can very well approach PSK as walk in;
- be prepared to spend atleast half a day at the PSK;
- if your address on your passport is also your current address then probably there wont be any police verification;
- in this scenario you would get PCC in a day or two (depending on the workload at PSK);
- else your regional police station would initiate police verification and would submit their findings to PSK;
- upon them submitting the verification, you'd get an sms alert from PSK mentioning your PCC is ready to be collected.

thats all. very easy process (i'm too sarcastic). be prepared to face the arrogance of PSK staff. PM me if you need any further info on this. Will be more than happy to help you (i've gone through this hell very recently).
