Hi,

I moved to Canada in September 2022 after getting permanent residency and have not been outside Canada for more than 183 days since then. Its been 3 years and over. Before that I was in India.

Now for citizenship application, it asks if "in the past 4 years, were you in a country or territory other than Canada for 183 days or more in a row(since the age of 18)."

Based on the question, Do i need to provide PCC for India, since in the past 4 years, I was in India for 1 year and then in Canada for 3 years. Does my PCC used for PR application suffice?

I can tell you my experience. I came to Canada in 2021, got my PR in 2023. Went to India for 17 days and had number day trips to US. I provided the PCC for India and US to be on the safe side because I was born in India and better to have that and not need it than need it and not have it.

Read the instructions/form carefully.

-You can answer 'yes' to being outside more than 183 days; BUT,
-in the part that refers to which country, note that this time was in your country of origin (in the explanation box) immediately prior to coming to Canada/becoming a PR - i.e. you do NOT need to submit a PCC.

If you have a new one, no harm in submitting.

Hi,
We immigrated to canada in 2020. My wife spent time back home in 2024 (more than 183 days) so she obviously needs a PCC. we did get the PCC from local embassy here after she came back to canada ( in early 2025) but somehow we didnt file the citizenship application. She then went back again this summer for around 2 months. The question is that if the PCC which we got in early 2025 if still valid or we need a new one considering her stay in 2025 was for less than 3 months.

Thanks
Faheem
