Many on the forum are confused as to PCC and PVC,

PCC : Police Clearing Certificate, issued by PSK (Passport Seva Kendra)
PVC : Police Verification Certificate issued by the local Police Station.

PCC : pls see the link for all info

http://www.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/docAdvisor/pccPassport

PVC: Would generally have the following steps:-
1. Contact the police station of that jurisdiction where u have generally resided for more than 1 year.
2. Meet the concerned person dealing with PVC.
3. He will ask u to bring a set of documents as proof for issuance of the PVC and the time when to get back.
4. Need to take all the original as well as CTC of copies, the officer will verify them and ask a next date to collect the PVC, meanwhile, there will be verification of ur address and check of ur criminal records.
5. Collection of the PVC
the entire process takes somewhat 1-3 weeks.

Infact, the CIC websites as for PVC from the police station and PCC as a second priority as in link below:-

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/asia-pacific/india.asp

But as of now, getting a PCC from PSK is a much faster and hassle free affair. But remember to call the toll free no mentioned on the passport seva website to confirm which PSK in ur location would be responsible to issue PCC for CANADA, as all PSKs dont issue PCC for CANADA.

Does this mean that PVC is ok instead of PCC...

So, if we hv submitted PVC issued by Police Commisioner office in regional language then is it fine or VO will not consider it?

Technically both are considered equally for the purpose by CIC whether it is called PCC or PVC. You can get and submit what is easier for you.

How to obtain a police certificate - India
Do I need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence?
Yes.
How and where do I obtain one?
Local Requests
For districts other than the Punjab:
Applicants should contact the local Senior Superintendent of Police/ Superintendent of Police/ Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner of Police, the Additional Commissioner of Police, or the Station House Officer (Police clearance certificate issued by the Regional Passport Office are also acceptable.
For residents of the Punjab:
Only the Senior Superintendent of Police or the Regional Passport Office may sign a Police Clearance Certificate.
Non-Resident Requests
Applicants should contact the Indian embassy or consulate.

For indian applicant other than Punjab state
no need to obtain PCC only PVC is fine

Hi Vats,

Technically both are valid as mentioned on the Canadian website.

Now one really needs to access what is convenient and feasible for him, and go accordingly.

Excetly but see in case of PCC one need to visit passport office and than the PVC process is common (though one need to visit local police office etc)
and the cost is ofcourse higher in case of PCC than PVC (ofcourse its little amount @ 500-1000INR)
I got my PVC in 1 day (no doubt i have followup police station for full day and . . . ) but PCC cant be granted in this short time

but your point is true, one can decide for what to proceed as per conviency of the perticular

Hi,

My and my spouse's passport were issued under Tatkal quota in Jul'18.
I got a show cause notice (for both the passports) from the RPO that was related to 'Adverse' police report and talk about my address verification.

I am in Canada now and want to apply for Permanent Residency for which I'll require a PCC during documentation stage.

Question is - Shall I get the clear PCC in this case, given that my Police verification was not successful?
