Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen applying to sponsor my spouse to come to Canada. We recently got married in her country and I am in the process of filling out the paperwork.

On the IMM5491E PDF which is the Document Checklist, it requires that I attach a copy of the receipt (IMM 5401) which is an online payment system that you can use to pay for various items. It does not however say what I need to pay for. On the CIC website I found the Online Payment - Immigration Fees which lists all the payments available for a Family Class.

I am confused as to what I need to pay to include with this Receipt (IMM 5401)? There are a few immigration fees listed with various prices. Do I need the Sponsorship Application + A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older, or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner? My spouse is 21 years old.

The various options are..

  • Sponsorship application (per application) $75.00
  • Principal applicant $475.00
  • Principal applicant, if less than 22 years of age and not a spouse or common-law partner (including a dependent child of the sponsor, a child to be adopted and an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew, or grandchild) $75.00
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older, or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner $550.00
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is less than 22 years of age and is not a spouse or common-law partner $150.00
  • Right of Permanent Residence Fee

Anyone able to point me to the right direction? Thank you.

You can pay and send it months later. If same day payment was required, that would be stated.

Hi.me with my husband applied to sponsorship and an open work permit. My status in Canada will finish in March 15.in IMM 5710 form in question 3 we chose a work permit with a new employer for the first time.Is this correct or we should choose different?we called immigration support Centre and they said that this application will give ne an extension for 2 years and we don't need to apply for another extension as extend your stay as a temporary resident. I'm pregnant and will not work soon.in the question about employment name we wrote N/a because i don't have any employer yet.waiting for your advise and help.thank you.

Yes, that is the right option.

Note that depending on your province, you may not qualify for provincial health coverage and have to pay all costs for the birth.

Hello again.
Hope to have your advise .
My status in Canada will finish in March 15.I have Temporary resident visa multivisa for 8 years.i came here year ago.then I applied for an extension for another 6 month.and 7 February this year I with my husband applied for Sponsorship together with an Opren Work permit and sent all documents together. Now we are waiting for answer. But as my status will finish in March 15 after several days we worry and want to apply for extension for 1 year like Temporary resident extension another visitor record.because we are not sure if they will send back our application there some mistake or if we forgot to write something. Because while I'm waiting for and Open Work permit answer I will.have implied status.but if they will send it back for any reason I will not have any status at all.and they told me they don't know and can't say how long extension this Open Work permit will give me today.so I just don't want to stay with no status in country and I'm pregnant and have difficult pregnancy. I can't fly anywhere.
Waiting for your answer.hope for your advise..thank you.
And in the website I read that if you will apply for an Open Work permit and temporary resident status extension they will send documents and give answer only for one of these applications.

They state that it is recommended to apply 30 ahead. It is not a requirement. Apply for the visitor extension.

I found this information in the immigration website:
It is not necessary to make separate application for an extension of temporary resident status when you apply for a work or study permit. The officer will issue all the necessary documentation with one application.I'm confused. So how it will be if I will apply for visitor extension?they will check only one application?open work permit or visitor extension?
