No a phd is a PhD. Usually it is a professional degree. If you are a specialist MD who wants to work still practice I would strongly discourage you from immigrating to Canada. Getting a residency spot will be incredibly difficult to impossible due to the lack of spots after all the Canadian students have matched. Even if you do get lucky and redo 2-6 years of residency you may not get a job in Canada because there are no available jobs in that specialty, this is why Canadians citizens are having to go practice in the US or be unemployed. What is your specialty and where did you do your schooling and residency?
