Hello

I am planning to move to Canada and have some credit card debt in the US. I have no intention of running away from it but I can't pay it in full right away either. I plan to pay it over time with regular monthly payments. Will I run into any problems if I do that?

Thanks in advance.

The only issue you will have is having a bank that plays across the border so you can make your payments. Checks from this side will NOT work on that side (banking/routing is not the same) and usually the banks can't process across border payments for you.

I used RBC and opened a "US" account which I just transferred money to every month until I got fully paid off.

Depending on where you live, it is easy enough to pop across the border once a month for banking (or less often to deposit money) and then make payment online/phone.

Depending on future goals, keeping the US CC active might be a good idea.

Among big banks, only RBC and TD has US-Canada cross border accounts. You can open one of those, transfer funds between US/Canada account and pay down US debts
