Hi,

I am trying to pay a fee on the CIC site with my VISA Debit card, but it keeps coming up as "Transaction not approved". Is there a way to pay like this? Or even with, say, a Vanilla Mastercard? The CIC site says it takes prepaid credit cards, but that didn't work for me either...

I just don't want to have to wait to get the receipt form in the mail and do it that way, I'd prefer to pay ASAP.

Thanks!

I don't think Debit cards and prepaid credit cards works. I had a problem before and it took me forever to pay using them. I actually loaded two prepaid credit cards (AMERICAN EXPRESS and a VISA) but it didn't worked. So what I did I just asks a friend that has CREDIT CARD to pay for it and pay her cash.

Are you using USD funds? Because it will not accept that, it will only accept CDN credit cards.

If you used your friend's credit card, who's information did you put in the receipt under "payer's information", yours or his?

And do you what the payer's information is for?

Thanks.

I think depends on what fee you are paying for.
The information on the receipt is generally used to match up with the application details. For example, for Family class sponsorship, it's normally the sponsor's information.

This is not true. I paid with a U.S. credit card. The funds are converted automatically by your bank.

Credit and Debit are totally different. They will not use a USD Debit card.

In online transactions, a USD debit card with a Visa logo is processed no differently from a USD credit card with a Visa logo; it makes no difference to the merchant. However, the maximum dollar amount of a transaction may only be $400 or $500, regardless of what's in the associated checking account, unless you call your bank and ask them to raise the limit temporarily.

My husband tried to pay with his USD debit card that has the VISA thing on it for his visitor's extension. Didn't work. Called CIC they told us since it's USD they do not accept USD debit cards, even with the VISA thing on it. Maybe you had success but we didn't. But that's one reason why it may not work.

That's more CIC not understanding that U.S. debit cards can usually also be processed as credit cards, which is something that isn't possible through Interac. Merchants can't single out Visa/MC-branded debit cards any more than they can single out travel rewards cards.

Yes I'm agree with you. I also prefer to use ASAP for online paying. Paying any kind of fee or bill is so easy and convenient with VISA Debit Card. I recently submitted an online application form with my visa card and i finished it off just within 5 minutes.

Yup, Paying fees online with VISA Debit card is now safe and secure as well as process is too easy. Even You have no need to enter your financial details no matter where you shop.
