Hi.

I sponsored my husband from Iraq in 2013 and he was refused. We applied for n appeal case but then withdrew before we heard anything from them. Now we want to apply for a sponsorship again. Do I have to file a new application? Will the past refusal affect our sponsorship in any way?

Yes you have to file a new application. Yes your history will certainly count. Have you been living together at any point since your past appeal? Are you in a better financial position? Are you currently working?

Yes we have been living together the whole time. Shouldn't that make our case stronger this time? And yes we are in a better financial position

Your case was really refused based on financial reasons. As long as you can show that you are actually going to relocate to Canada and can support yourselves without government help you have a good chance. If possible I would consider moving to Canada and getting a job before the end of your sponsorship process. That would really alleviate any concerns about your finances and your intentions to relocate to Canada.

Did you and your husband save this through your salaries? Does your husband speak English or French and do either of you have a somewhat easy pathways to employment once you arrive in Canada? Airfare and basic relocation will likely reduce your savings to closer to 8k if not less. What you need to show is how you will survive without government help in Canada once you arrive. Have you worked in Canada before? Can you show a plan for you to regain employment in Canada? Does your husband have a plan to retrain or skills that would easily translate into a job in Canada. Do you have family or friends that can offer a job for either you or your spouse when you return even if it is only for the initial months?
