I think it is 6 months as the visa will be till the expiry of your medical. SO assuming you application took 6 months for approval, you will get visa expiring in 6 months.
Oh thank you! Let's pray for it. What does it mean by "this applicatiom has been approved"? Does that mean they didn't mind the issue with our passports?

Yes, that should mean your passports have been accepted and are ready for visa stamping.

I am in same situation. You still have more than 6 months. you can request for express PR card which you get in under six week with added cost of $50.

to your point, i called CIC regarding this 'Express PR' application. However, it is only available for PR Renewal , NOT FOR FIRST TIME PR Card Application.

our only option is to apply for travel document, which also costs $50.

In that case, I will tell you what I am doing.
I have US Visa and fortunately my flight back is from US.
So I will be travelling by road in my friends car who lives in US(You can even get a rental from buffalo to toronto.)
Land crossings only need landing document.

Yea ! That also works! For me, i will have to get the travel document... :'(
Cause I do not have a US Visa and my flight back will be directly to Toronto...

I was doing some research in older posts for Passports to CPC-Ottawa.

After case is closed in CIC it takes 2-3 business days for tracker to get activated.

Also it gets activated after 5 pm

I am in similar situation. need to travel to US for a week in Sept. Problem with travel doc is that it can only be applied in a visa office outside canada.
