VISA ISSUED...
December 2010
I sent my passport in to have the Visa put in (by mail) and it arrived, had the visa put in, but never reached me! It should have come a few weeks ago (NYC Consulate mailed it back December 7th). So my passport is almost certainly lost in the mail!

Does anyone have experience with this? I have to apply for a passport from my home country, which will take over a month.

My question is: Once I get my new passport, will the Embassy put in a NEW visa, allowing me to land? Surely I will not have to do a whole new application.....

Thanks very much

wow... that's a hard one... i'd say give it a few more days still... i know it's been WAY too long, but it's over the seasonal madness and holidays and all sorts of things that could have easily delayed it... try not to panic and have faith... I had something mailed from Seattle take 42 days to get to me in Toronto recently... i was just about to file a lost item report and sure enough it arrived in my mailbox...

also try contacting the postal service with the tracking number... tell them it's very important documents and see if they can put a tracer on it...

if it is lost, i'm sure that they'll be able to issue you a new visa once you get a replacement passport... the visa is usually set with the same expiry date as the medical (one year after it was done), but hopefully they'd make an exception if needed in extreme circumstances...

good luck

Oh, I forgot to mention... I had them send it regular, regular mail back - no tracking method possible unless you have a corporate prepaid account, and I thought, how often do things get lost in the mail, right?

Give it a few more days....regular mail + holiday madness and you are asking for delays!

I agree - Holiday mail delays could affect receipt this time of year. I don't understand, though, why you did not send the passports with tracking? The letter we got requesting our passports was very specific about where to send the application - depending on if we were sending from the US or from Canada, and which type of mailing to request in order to be able to track both the mailing to and from the visa office. Didn't NYC Consulate send you that same info?

I really, really hope you get it. I'd also fax info to NYC that you haven't received them and ask for instructions. It's possible they can issue a duplicate COPR, as long as the expiry date is not too close when you finally get new passports.

Silverbee, so sorry to hear about your dilemma.

Is it possible the holiday mail traffic and mail holidays have simply severely delayed the delivery? Do you have no means by which to track where it went? I'd advise you call CIC immediately and see what they say. I don't know if you can call CIC New York, but I believe you can email and fax them. You should certainly do both.

I don't see why you'd have to re-do the application; you should already be logged as a PR in their systems.

Please let us know what happens, and good luck to you.

My passport came in the mail!! It was sent to the wrong country by the mail (for no apparent reason)... but it made its way to me in the end.

WOW wrong country??? Anyways, I am glad to hear you got it...Congrats you will be a PR soon..

wrong continent!

thats good -- b/c they def wont issue another visa.
once it is sent from their office thats it..

and let this be a lesson to us all -- USE DHL OR FEDEX or ANYTHING BUT REGULAR MAIL :P

I'd rather have Canada Post then UPS, just make sure you send important documents through registered mail. ;)

actually, nyc consulate wrote back that they WOULD accept a replacement passport. So if your passport gets lost before you land, it is not the end of the world.

Canada Post ExpressPost not much better really. I'm in Brazil trying to get married and have been waiting for my legalized
Birth Cert now since Dec 29th. All the tracking feature says is "left Canada the 4th of Jan."
I don't how much longer to stay in Brazil waiting for this or should I high tail it back home and get new documents and return
to marry my girl? Between a rock and hard place no pun intended.

I had my passport/visa sent back registered mail, and it appears to be lost. I'm hoping it will eventually turn up, if not, I am royally screwed.

My son went to university in North Dakota, and EVERY piece of mail we ever got from them (correctly addressed to us in Alberta) made its way to us via SWEDEN!!!!!! :oEverything we got was always about a month late.
