Passport validity less than 6 months, flight allowed?

We plan to travel to Canada from India in the next couple of months. Our son has a US passport but the passport’s validity will be less than 6 months at that time.

Will he have any issue traveling by flight? I heard the airlines/ immigration don’t allow you to board the flight if the passport expires in less than six months.

Canada doesn't have this rule BUT if he is not a PR, he will be expected to leave Canada before his passport expires.

He is a PR.

I heard the restrictions are more from Indian immigration and airlines than Canadian side.

If 6 months passport condition is mandatory, we will be stuck as his passport can’t be renewed until US embassy opens.

It's not mandatory to enter Canada, as I said above.
