Passport Validity for Canadian Visa?

My girlfriend is trying to visit me for July and August this summer. Unfortunately her foreign passport expires end of November, so we're already at the <6 months point that a lot of countries use and have yet to apply for the Canadian visa. Is it required for Canada as well or is she fine so long as her passport is valid for her stay? I've heard conflicting information on this... and her consulate in the US hasn't been replying to emails.

The passport has to be valid for her whole stay.

An additional complication is that she just sent her passport in for renewal today after all. She has photocopied the appropriate pages of her old passport, would this still be good enough to start the application process? We would mail the new passport instead of the old one, but use the old one to apply for the visa.

Many thanks!

Minimum validity has to 6 months. In the section of previous travel history, she would attach copies of her current soon to be expired passport, but her application forms need to use the new passport number. The visa sticker will be issued to the passport you are applying with and sending a new passport at the end of the process will create complications.

No, as the requirement is a *valid* passport, and in most cases, triggering the renewal process renders the previous one invalid. She'll have to apply for the visa with her new passport when it arrives.

Canada does not implement the 6-month passport validity rule for foreign visitors, as Jalex said, it just has to be valid during her entire stay--she would not have been granted a visa or a stay exceeding the length of her passport if she had used the old one.

Does the passport just need to be valid at the time of application? Hypothetically, could one apply for the visa, start a passport renewal process and thus invalidate the old passport, and then send in the new passport on request? Probably a long shot but figured I'd ask.

Thanks a lot guys, I've been waiting on the consulate's response to these things for 2 weeks now.

I could be wrong, but at the approval of visa, the visa sticker is prepared with the approved passport number as the reference. If the passport number changes, it could cause delays at best. They will also only grant a visa validity as per the passport you used to apply for the TRV.
