Hello,

I am thinking about renewing my passport (Philippine passport) but my Canadian visitors visa is on it and still valid. Is it ok to arrived in Canadian border with the new passport and show my old passport with the visitors visa on it?

Ann

I don't know if this answer helps, but with regular visas and work permits they care only about the document (visa) and not the passport. Usually a visa is not valid longer than the original passport's expiry date. We renewed our passports a year before the expiry date, but it didn't affect our visas at all. However, we had the visas as separate documents too, not only in the passport.

I think it should work, but try to find something on CIC website. Or someone with more experience might answer here

Hello
Common sense says that if the visa is issued on your passport then it is linked to your current passport #.
If you apply for a new passport a new number is issued. Also they would punch your old passport which in my opinion automatically voids the visa!
I suggest to contact CIC before renewing :)

As I wrote before, any other type of visas are issued to the person and not the passport. I had a completely different passport number on my Visa and used it with my new passport. I think it should work the same. However, asking never hurts. Others thing if the person who answers from CIC will have a clue about it. Most of those agents are ridiculous. I don't know what they get their money for

Check this! ;)
