I HAVE MY CITIZENSHIP TEST AND OATH IN FEBRUARY 2010. AND I AM ASKED TO BRING MY PASSPORT(CURRENT & EXPIRED). MY PASSPORT WAS EXPIRED IN SEPTEMBER 2009. I DID NOT RENEW MY PASSPORT AFTER THAT.

MY 1095 DAYS STAY IN CANADA WAS COMPLETED IN AUGUST 2008 AND MY EXPIRED PASSPORT(BACK HOME PASSPORT) SHOWS MY TRAVEL RECORD AND MY PHYSICAL STAY IN CANADA DURING FIRST 3 YEARS(1095 DAYS).

MY QUESTION IS WILL THE JUDGE ASK ME TO SHOW THE RENEWED/CURRENT PASSPORT. SHOULD I GO AND GET A RENEWED PASSPORT BEFORE I GO FOR CITIZENSHIP TEST AND OATH. PLEASE REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE I HAVE MY TEST AND OATH IN FEBRUARY 2010.

I don't think you will need a current passport but by all means call CIC and ask them.

In any case, it will not stop you from taking the exam. There were people at my exam who had lost their passports and/or lost their landing records and so on and they were all allowed to take the exam and told what they'd have to do about their lost documents before their oath.

Out of curiosity, wha do they have to "DO" regarding the documents they lost?!!

in other words, I wonder how (in such cases) would they prove the 1095 days in Canada?

Thanks,
Mary

Leon I have my Citizenship test and oath on the same day. I will not have enough time to arrange a valid passport by that time. Thanks

I wasn't within earshot of all of them but the person in front of me in line had lost her record of landing and was told to order a copy from CIC.

Somebody who has lost their passport may have had it and made and sent in copies when they applied for citizenship but may have lost it at some point between then and a year later or so when they got called in for test. In any case, if CIC did not believe that they had 1095 days in Canada, that question would come up before they get called in for the citizenship exam. They would not be called in for exam if they were not believed.

Are you sure your test and oath are on the same day? I did this in 2008 and we were told that it's 2-4 months from the test to the oath. They have to grade the tests to know if you passed and they will not let you take the oath if you don't pass.

Montreal used to do the test/oath same day, I don't know if they still do.

As the citizenship case varies person to person. Yes, i have test and oath on the same day. But i am confused for my passport, that i need to have a valid passport or the expired passport will be good which proves my 1095 days stay in Canada. Please reply if you can.

Either call the CIC call centre and ask or go to your local CIC office and ask them.

I have my interview in Victoria BC on Weds Feb 10/2010 and have to take all original documents I submitted with my application for citizenship. I also have to take "all passports in my possession, current and expired." I do not think you need a valid passport from the country in which you are a citizen - but I would check with CIC as they, and only they, know the answer. If they can direct you to a page on their website, even better - you can print out the info. Don't forget other photo ID - ie Driver's License, Permanent Resident Card, Provincial Care Card...I am taking more than I need to. Oh! Birth/Marriage Certificates also... ::) I think that's it.
Good Luck...I am counting the days until I can say "I Am Canadian!"

When my mom had her test and interview, her homeland passport was expired for 2 years already. No problems. HTH.
