how long does it take for passport to be returned back to me, i am worried that they might request for my passport before i go on holiday and not return it in time for me to go on holiday. but then again what if i leave the country and they request that i send my passport, what should i do?

applied October 19th South Africa, medical requested November 6, they gave me till Dec 6 to submit medicals and police clearance. i am supposed to resume school on the 6th January. i doubt i would make it for that start date so i want to go on holiday and start in September 2016.
