Hello folks,

I have applied my permanent residency file in October 2019. I have got my passport request on March 4th 2020. But can not submit as I am stuck in India due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Unfortunately I decided to took vacation from March 1st to March 28th 2020. When I received my passport request I was in India. So tried to explain the situation through web form to CIC. And they responded that we verified your trip and this information is passed on to the officer. The officer will contact you soon. I have never been contacted so far.

Then our PM declared locked down until 14th April so again I explained my situation through web form, I have received following email.

Good day,
Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Coronavirus - Approved PRs

We verified the information you provided. The Government of Canada is closely monitoring the new coronavirus (COVID-19) and its impact on IRCC clients.

If you are outside Canada:

On March 20, 2020, the Government of Canada provided updates on exemptions to travel restrictions in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus and protect the health and safety of Canadians.

If you were approved for permanent residence before the travel restrictions were announced on March 16, 2020, but have not landed yet, you will be able to come to Canada. However, you should not try to travel to Canada immediately. We will announce when the exemptions are in place.

We invite you to consult the How COVID-19 is affecting business at IRCC page to answer your most common questions about travel restrictions and exemptions.

If you are inside Canada:

We understand that these measures will affect several IRCC clients, including those who have received a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and are currently inside Canada.

Validating a COPR at a Port of Entry (POE)

· Due to the current travel restrictions, you should not travel to a POE to validate your COPR.

· Travelling to a POE from inside Canada for the purpose of getting immigration services is not considered essential travel, and you will not receive these services.

Appointment at a local IRCC office

· All in-person permanent resident landing appointments at the local IRCC offices have been cancelled until April 13, 2020.

· Local offices are reduced to critical services, therefore, no appointments can be scheduled at this time.

What happens next?

· Maintaining a legal temporary resident status is an important requirement. If your status is about to expire, you must apply online for an extension (visitor, student or worker).

· We invite you to visit our website regularly to receive up-to-date information as more announcements are made.

Please be assured that we continue to closely monitor the situation closely and will provide you with the most current information as the situation evolves.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please let me know what should I do under this situation? I am not sure when I will be able to come back to Canada. I have tried calling CIC many times but may be because of less staff or closed offices I was not able connect with them.

Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

if you have an acknowledgment of the email you sent notifying them, then there's nothing else for you to do right now until you either hear from them or you can leave India and enter Canada under your existing visa once the lockdown ends, whichever comes first. you can't be the only person to be in this predicament but they must be snowed under requests so just sit tight and plan your return flight. if you run into problems at immigration, show the acknowledgment email you received and explain your situation. make sure your current visa is updated and doesn't need to be extended online as mentioned.
