I applied for new Canadian passport using the express pickup option & they gave me a pickup receipt for December 12 (I applied on December 3rd). What will happen if the passport is ready before the receipt date? Does it just sit in their office or do they notify me?

And apparently there's a link to check passport application status after the 5th business day of the application, https://secure.cic.gc.ca/rs-vd/stat-eng.aspx
but it says they'll take 3 business days to reply.

Is it possible to call CIC and check the status of the application?
 
just go the office in 4-5 days and check if its ready.....

They gave me this reply first
"
You have submitted your passport application at one of our regional offices. The processing time can take up to 10 business days after having received your complete application at the Passport Program. For information concerning your passport application, please call 1-800-567-6868. Please do not reply to this email.


We trust this information is of assistance to you.

Then after two days for new query I got this answer:

Does it just sit in their office or do they notify me?

Pretty much will just sit there. It is likely not worth the effort to notify you since the difference will be like a day or two at most. I would recommend just showing up on the date on the receipt
