Passport issues

I am applying for PR + work visa in July through my Canadian boyfriend (common law, inland application)
My passport expires in June 2019. I can not leave the country to go home to get a new one before we apply and Id rather not have to go all the way to the swedish embassy in Ontario to issue a new one for 200$.
Wondering if anyone knows any way around this cause 1. Pr is only issued as long as your passport is valid and
2. I dont know how long inland applications are atm but I know they take a long time

Could I get a travel document instead (Canadian/Swedish)? Is there a way to re-apply once my passport expires that is easier than the first application?

Thank you!

you can apply, and then change your passport within Canada or you can travel back to Sweden (as it's visa exempt I believe). As soon as you receive a new one, just send the copy to CIC and you'll land with a new passport

I would think that you would be able to submit the passport application by mail to the Swedish embassy in Ontario.

They need your fingerprint..
Had the same issue in australia when my passport expired (you'd think i'd learnt after that time haha)
and had to travel to the embassy for fingerprints + photo and then they sent it to me when it was done.

Do you mean that when I have my Pr I go back, get a new one and send it in
and it lands in my current status? Cause when I've applied I can't go home until it's through as Im applying inland.

1. Don't know where you got that from. Once you are a PR, you have the right to reside in Canada permanently, regardless of passport validity.

2. IRCC has committed to a one year processing time for inland. Your app will most likely be done well before your passport expires.

There is no such travel document.

Your passport date isn't an issue.

You an change your passport within Canada through embassy. I know many people from various countries who have done it. Check with your embassy what the procedure is, I'm sure it's not difficult

Well, it's still cheaper than flying to Europe. I'm in the same position, my country's Embassy is in Toronto and I live in Alberta (not even a big city) and I have to fly to apply for a passport and then fly one more time to pick it up. Check with your Embassy they might have some days when they are in your province (I know mine travel all over Canada once a year for the people like me so we don't have to go twice or so)

If your passport expires in 2019 why are you worried about this right now? Just wondering...Why don't you focus on the PR and your passport after the fact? You can get a renewal in Canada - many do...its 2 1/2 years from now for heavens sake!

The passport date is only an issue for COPR. If your passport expires earlier than your medicals, then the date on your COPR is your passport date. When you're landed and became PR, the date on your passport isn't important anymore is you stay in Canada.

Yes, I think OP is confused about what that means. Yes you need a valid passport within 6 months I believe, so they can issue the COPR. They don't care about your passport after this. Once you get your card, it is valid for 5 years.

Edit: I think I know why you think this. In the guide, they mention "permanent resident visas" expiry is issued for no longer than the passport validity. This is referring to the visa given to people from non-visa exempt countries, so they can land. It's not the actual PR status.
