Passport - From USA to New Delhi

Hello..

I applied for Canada imigration at Canadian High Commission (CHC) New Delhi office in 2002. I am in USA with family. I had a daughter in USA, holding US passport. I do not have valid address in India. I have USA address in CHC New Delhi office.

CHC New Delhi has asked me to submitt passports for all the family members to New Delhi office THRU secured mail only. No hand delivery.

What is the best way to get Canadian VISA stamped?

1. Send passport to CHC New Delhi thru courier? - Sending directly to CHC is possbile. Has anyone recevied Indian/US passport back to USA address from CHC New Delhi office?

2. Going to India does not work as I do not have Indian address to get passport back from CHC New Delhi.

3. CHC Delhi already denied to transfer file to USA.

I do not see why you could not send your passport from one country to another for stamping even if you have no address in the country where you applied. I do not believe you are expected to stay or go back to the country where you have originally applied to get a PR visa stamped.

However, from earlier posts, the laws in India do not allow sending or receiving passports by mail, so you might want to check on that.


I am not an expert and this is just my opinion.

Go to India, get the visa stamped in person and then go to Canada, complete landing and come back to US. If they say send passport in secure mail that doesn't mean that you cannot go in-person and get your visa, you can actually get the visa the same day. If you delay this, you might put your visa in jeopardy and it will be canceled after certain period of time.

The courier companies (UPS and FedEx) in USA are accepting Passport to deliver to New Delhi.
I am asking these questions to CHC now.

you might be better off sending your passport to a relative/ friend in India who in turn will send it to CIC delhi.


You will have trouble in receiving passport from India since courier companies in India check for what document is inside a packet and passports are not allowed to be mailed out of India.

Hi There,

I know it is illegal as per the Indian Passport regulations to ship passport over the borders, but I know what we do for our clients is that we ask DHL or FED Ex for a secure passport delivery. But getting it back will be a trouble because, CIC laws say that they will not mail your passports to any address outside India.
So you will have to provide a relative's address or a friend's address for them to send it back who can later send it to you. But sending it back in USA will be a trouble if you do not have any links in the courrier company to use.
Your best bet to be safe is to go and get it done. I know for fact that CIC will stamp it and return it withing a couple of days if you provide a letter explaining situation with the passport.
