My husband and I got married back in July. I was wondering if I needed to have a new passport with my new last name in order to send in my papers or if it is ok to send in the papers as is, without a new passport.

I am filling out all of my application with my new last name and my drivers license and social security number all all with my new last name, just not my passport at the moment.

Are you the sponsor or the applicant? As the sponsor, I filled out the forms with my new last name, but my passport is still in my old name. It was not a problem. I was approved as sponsor and my husband has his COPR/Landing Visa.

Not sure if it makes a difference if you are the applicant.

As the applicant i probably wouldn't risk it...sure it'll take a bit longer to get the new passport, but its still quicker than the back and forth with the visa office if they decide to send everything back cause the names don't match =\

hello! I was in the same situation. My passport was in my maiden name (as was my work permit for the UK) however employer documents and such were in my married name. I applied using my maiden name as stated on my passport, but did submit a letter of explanation on the difference in last name. I basically didn't change my passport while in the UK because I figured it would be a hassle with the work permit too. I also said that when I returned to Canada I was going to change my passport which I am now in the process of doing. CIC Missasauge received our application on July 5th and I was approved as Sponsor on August 5th. No problems!
